Mission

To prepare advanced social work practitioners to meet the needs of multicultural, multilingual, and diverse populations; to be ethical leaders in community-based practice; and to advocate for social and economic justice. The MSW program also maintains a special focus on the community issues of the California Central Coast region.

Admission Requirements and How to Apply

Applications to the MSW program for Fall 2014 will be accepted starting on October 1, 2013. We encourage you to apply early so as to complete the dual application process. Please request transcripts early from all non-CSUMB colleges and community colleges.  Visit our application page to learn about prerequisites, admission requirements, important deadlines and  the application process.

Information sessions about the program and admission requirements will be held from 4-5pm in Beach Hall on the CSUMB campus on these Mondays:  October 7, 2013, November 4, December 2, January 6, 2014, and February 3.  Reservations are not needed.

The MSW program at CSU Monterey Bay (CSUMB) has obtained candidacy status for accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). CSUMB is a Hispanic-serving institution (Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities). The California Mental Health Services Act (Proposition 63) has provided funding to support the Master of Social Work program at California State University, Monterey Bay to meet the needs of the regional workforce.
